Description

Cirano Castelfranchi View of Naviglio di Via San Damiano Oil painting created in 1952 on poplar plywood depicting the view of old Milan. The Milanese landscape is painted with confident and expressive brushstrokes. The painting is in good condition, framed in a modern ivory lacquered frame with gilded corners. In the foreground, there is the romantic Ponte delle Sirenette bridge, still visible today in the heart of Sempione Park in Milan; built according to the design of architect Francesco Tettamanzzi in 1840–1842 by the Rubini-Scalini-Falck company from C Dongo; decorations were made by Benedetto Cacciatori on plaster models; the bridge was commissioned by private individuals and was intended to be placed on the canal near Via San Damiano, today’s Via Uberto Visconti di Modrone.

On the parapets, there were two Latin inscriptions commemorating the construction of the first iron bridge in Milan in 1841 during the reign of Ferdinand I of Austria. Each of the pylons at the ends featured a mermaid holding an oar. Originally, the pillars were decorated with cast iron friezes, anchors, and swans holding garlands in the upper part, with lion heads in the lower part.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevailing Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, emphasizing grandeur and referencing Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in opulence. Selective use of extraordinary materials was employed to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which often mirrors the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently across countries, and each style had its unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for a luxurious antique that fits your interior.

The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each piece, matching the description and photos. We also have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
