Description

For the old Napoleon III bronze applications, two arms depicting an winged female figure, the Winged Victory, messenger of victory and military triumph, topped with two double volute scroll arms; bronze castings are mounted on a mahogany panel shaped and molded along gilded edges.

They are in perfect condition, re-electrified.

They originate from a Milanese palace but are of French origin, from the Napoleon III era, dating around 1870.

The two winged figures are detailed castings depicting the Winged Victory, dressed in long robes, standing on a globe; two arms support an urn from which extend two curved arms, two branches decorated with scrolls and botanical motifs, ending with two candlesticks.

The shaped panel on which the castings are mounted is made of polished mahogany shellac; it measures 20 cm in width and 43 cm in height, while the total height of the candlesticks is 55 cm, and the overall width is 25 cm.

Prestigious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style, is prominent. Early in the century, this included neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the Victorian English style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.

Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign, with significant references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture, such as Louis XVI style, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and serve a luxurious role. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which often resembles the historical era. The Renaissance style also made a significant impact, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, and leaving a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and solid, often using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French creators, as a tribute to the beauty and history of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character, which is especially important when selecting an exclusive antique for your interior.

The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have experts—art appraisers, historians, and specialists from around the world—available to assist you.
