Description
Pair of XVIII-century gilded lanterns with original wheel rims, made of wrought iron. This pair of antique iron wall brackets comes from a castle in the Ossola Valley, where we found them with a gold and violet finish, which has been partially removed to reveal traces of their original XVIII-century gilding, based on what remains.
The two hanging lantern brackets are handcrafted with elegant spiral details, and are in good condition consistent with XVIII-century craftsmanship and wear. The only flaw is a slight bend at the bottom of one of the two supports.
Notably, the presence of a candle holder blade near the top of the square.
Stylish antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was dominant. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from Napoleon’s reign. It features significant influence from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly shaped pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture designed to exude splendor and luxury. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which often resembles the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using dark stains, moldings, strong bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially relevant when seeking an elegant antique that fits perfectly into your interior.
The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with forgeries. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
