Description
Pair of 18th-century gilded lantern squares with original wheel rims, made of wrought iron. This pair of antique iron wall brackets comes from a castle in the Ossola Valley, where we found them with a gold-purple finish that has been partially removed to rediscover traces of their original 18th-century gilding, based on what remains.
Two hanging lantern brackets are handcrafted with elegant spiral details, in good condition consistent with 18th-century craftsmanship and wear. The only flaw is a slight twist at the bottom of one of the two brackets.
Notably, the presence of a candle holder blade near the top of the square.
Stylish antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess distinctive character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own characteristic features.
Many styles distinguish antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, especially the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from Napoleon’s reign. It features significant influences from Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The next is Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly ornate pieces designed to radiate splendor and serve as symbols of luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style also had a significant impact, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and leaving a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and solid, often using brown stains, moldings, robust bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as in the construction of cabinets and other chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style its unique character. This is especially important when seeking elegant antique pieces suited to your interior.
The key to stylish antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We have access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
