A bit of history

Both founders, Luciano and Marilena Tellatin, started their careers in pottery when they were just sixteen and decided to establish their own company after years working as employees in two different antique factories. In a garage at their home, and later in a shed, in 1982, they began a story that continues to this day. Deep passion and dedication are the elements that drive the founders, supported by young entrepreneurship — their son Alberto. He joined the company in 2000 after earning a teaching degree from the Art Institute of Nove: representing the future of the brand, which still has much to offer clients and partners.

With over 30 years of experience, a luxury collection, harmonious forms, respect for craftsmanship rooted in ancient techniques, and an ongoing investment in the artisanal heritage of Nove antiques, Ceramiche ML is a remarkably unique, dynamic company. It respects ancient pottery traditions while enthusiastically embracing the future.

The place where everything happens is located in the province of Vicenza. This region has been recognized as one of the best examples of Italian ceramic tradition since the 16th century: a land enriched with artisanal knowledge, artists, sculptors, and ancient factories known worldwide. The Nove and Bassano regions are full of historic companies whose work contributed to the fame of the ceramics district, decorating homes’ furniture around the world.

The history of this area tells of a long tradition rooted in the 17th century, thanks to factors such as underground clay deposits, “lottame” (a limestone rich in mineral silica), kaolin, and the use of the Brenta River for transporting finished products, wood for kilns, and powering water mills. These mills are used for mixing clay and grinding stones found at the riverbed.

An additional factor fostering the birth of an exclusive ceramic tradition in this region was the Venetian Senate decree. In fact, in the 17th century, the growing and increasingly widespread demand for fine ceramics in China led Dutch ceramists to imitate these works, flooding the Venice market with their products. As a result, in 1728, the Venetian Senate decided to increase domestic production through tax incentives for those producing porcelain and improving majolica production, thus fostering the development of the ceramic district in Nove.

The production area of the district still focuses on the municipalities of Nove and Bassano, surrounded by a dense network of companies that have contributed to the region’s worldwide reputation for excellence and uniqueness, unmatched elsewhere in Italy.
