Description
Porcelain table lamp with white gold and brass base. The floral decoration was handcrafted from precious gold by an artisan company around 1980. It is richly adorned with round golden lily of the valley on a white background, making it an exceptionally elegant and versatile porcelain lamp, in perfect condition.
The conical lampshade is made from rolled material in an ivory color, trimmed with piping, and shows minimal signs of use.
Unique antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. There is currently a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century. This style was influenced by Napoleon’s reign, characterized by strong references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles are also interesting and worth noting. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was highly ornate, designed to impress with splendor and serve a luxurious role. These pieces used selectively chosen materials to emphasize their grandeur.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style has influenced modern classic furniture, which often resembles the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.
The key to prestigious antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
