Luxury antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was predominant. Early in this century, antique styles such as Neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe, and the English Victorian style emerged. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th century. This period is associated with Napoleon’s reign, which introduced significant influences from Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—features highly ornate furniture meant to radiate splendor and luxury. Materials were carefully selected to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how the Baroque style has greatly influenced modern classical furniture, which often mimics the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, cornices, strong bases, and reliefs. These pieces often incorporated mythological and ancient motifs, with supports and legs shaped like animals.
Lion paws and eagle heads are common features in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its own character, which is especially relevant when selecting a luxurious antique for your interior.
The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photographs. We also have appraisers, art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world at your disposal.
