The times we live in are characterized by increased consumption. Therefore, the items we use daily are often valued only for their utility. Each year, we tend to part with the sentimentality they once held, replacing them with newer models.
Contrary to this trend, the philosophy of Berti Knives, a manufacturer of exclusive knives for various uses, stands out. Founded in 1895 by David Berti, the family workshop appears to be entirely independent of the trends that have dominated the global market over the years. Its most important value is a commitment to tradition, which is now upheld by the fourth generation of these Italian artisans.
The owners strongly oppose the idea of mass production by random labor forces, which they believe would lead to the loss of identity in their products. For this reason, their company's work philosophy places a special emphasis on the employed personnel. However, this does not mean that the Italian family is closed to change. Changes are welcome, provided they introduce elements consistent with the existing idea and can withstand years of quality testing.
Unlike others, the various stages of knife production are not handled by specialized sections of workers, but are often performed from start to finish by the same person. Thanks to this practice, each blade is completely unique.
High-quality materials are used in production — blades are made of steel, while handles are crafted from materials such as buffalo horn, bison horn, deer antler, or 'bosso' wood.
The owners encourage that, despite being designed for everyday use, their knives should be treated with respect, which ensures their longevity. Each one is, after all, a small, unique artifact.
