Umbrellas for men

Luxury men's umbrellas combine extraordinary elegance with durability

The first umbrellas, contrary to appearances, were not meant to protect from rain, but from... the sun. Since the sun in Egypt is quite intense, this gadget was created to provide shade and cooler air temperature underneath. Prototypes of umbrellas designed as rain shields were developed in China and were made of silk. However, this delicate material was coated with grease, allowing raindrops to roll off freely without soaking in.

Nobles used exclusive men's umbrellas as both an ornament and a stylish walking support. They were also a symbol of authority.
Today, the main purpose of personal umbrellas is to protect their owner from rain. Their popular sun-protective versions are usually called sun umbrellas, beach umbrellas, or awnings.

The oldest umbrella in the world probably dates back over six thousand years B.C. Well-preserved specimens have also been found in the tombs of pharaohs, among them hieroglyphs of ancient Egyptians on the inner walls of pyramids. It can be assumed that umbrellas were very valuable artifacts at that time.

Original and branded men's umbrellas

Old umbrellas with mysterious histories can be admired in many museums, both in Poland and around the world. One of the most interesting is located in Gignese, Italy. It is the first institution of its kind, not only in beautiful Italy but also in Europe and even worldwide, dedicated exclusively to umbrellas. The museum has been in existence since 1939. It houses exhibits from the 19th century as well as contemporary luxury men's umbrellas.
In Poland, a particularly noteworthy item is an exclusive men's umbrella from the early 20th century, which can be admired at the Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka. According to exhibition staff, it was one of the attributes of a very elegant man, and its value was compared to that of a cow at the time.

In recent times, umbrellas have become a permanent element of culture. Maria Koterbska sang about them, and Maria Konopnicka wrote a poem. Exclusive umbrellas for men, colorful ones for women, and multicolored children's umbrellas can be admired in many major cities worldwide. Entire streets are dedicated to them, with umbrellas hanging above. One of the first and probably the most famous is Agueda in Portugal. The colorful installation was created in 2012 as part of the Art Festival. Following its success, other countries, including Poland, followed suit. Currently, in our country, hanging luxury men's umbrellas and colorful women's umbrellas adorn streets in places like Połczyn-Zdrój, Łódź, Pszczyna, and Leszno.
