iMuranesi is a popular international brand combining modernity with traditional values of Venetian glassmaking.
However, this designer project is rooted in tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. At that time, the authorities of the Venetian Republic decided to concentrate all glassmakers in one place. To this day, its name is known worldwide, and the glass originating from there continues to impress crowds.
The Barbin family is one of the respected medieval families that established their presence in Venice as early as the second half of the 16th century.
In 1658, by order of the Council of Ten, the Barbin family was recorded in the Golden Book of Notable Murano Society, in other words, among the most distinguished glassmakers.
Additionally, the Barbin family was granted a coat of arms — featuring two bearded wise men looking at each other with a star between them on a blue background — which can still be admired today at the Glass Museum on the island of Murano.
