The famous mausoleum is located in Agra, an Indian city on the Yamuna River, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, about 200 km from New Delhi – the capital of India.
The construction of the Taj Mahal took approximately 20 years and involved over 20,000 workers. Some sources state that after its completion, the emperor ordered the main builder and architect to be killed so that no similar structure would be built anywhere in the world.
The structure is built from white marble, and its surfaces are covered with thousands of gemstones, semi-precious stones, and calligraphic decorations made from black marble.
