Description
Exceptional design combined with the highest quality materials synonymous with The Chess Empire & Amritsar Ivory Works Company.
This enterprise is the Chess Empire, founded on nearly 60 years of experience in the chess industry. The company is a leader in acquiring knowledge, continuous perfection in design, and superior craftsmanship, offering the highest quality chess products worldwide. Their valuable experience in manufacturing chess sets over three generations has enabled the brand to understand the selection of the best quality wood and the appropriate equipment to produce the finest elegant chess pieces in the world. The manufacturer employs the most experienced artisans with extensive craftsmanship knowledge. Years of learning have taught the brand to design the most exclusive chess sets imaginable.
Amritsar Ivory Works was established with the motif of producing lamps, statues, and chess sets from ivory under the leadership of Shiv Dyal Sharma in 1962. After several years, the brand was inherited by Mr. Rajesh Sharma (son of Mr. Shiv Dyal Sharma), who was an athlete and a national volleyball player. With his understanding and enthusiasm for creating wonders in sporting products, he began designing revolutionary models of wooden chess products after the complete ban on ivory use in his youth, selling them to many exporters in India. After long efforts, Mr. Rajesh Sharma established contact with Mr. Dennis Peterson, owner of Legend Products in the USA, in 1991-1992. Mr. Dennis was greatly impressed by the quality of the exquisite craftsmanship of Amritsar Ivory Works under Mr. Sharma’s leadership. Subsequently, both companies launched the Pioneer Series and Monarch Series chess sets, which became a huge success thanks to the good sales of chess sets produced in Boxwood/Ebony, marking a significant step in the international chess industry market.
In 1994, Rajesh Sharma and Frank A. Camarrata, Jr (from Dom Staunton, USA) collaborated to make another revolution in the history of the chess industry. Frank A. Camarrata was deeply contemplative when dealing with numerous failed attempts to design Collector series chess sets, undertaken by many other manufacturers and suppliers. But when Rajesh Sharma demonstrated his skills on the collector’s chess scenography, Frank Camarrata was mesmerized by the excellence of the designs developed by Rajesh Sharma (Amritsar Ivory Works). He immediately began working mainly with Amritsar Ivory Works. Rajesh Sharma introduced and crafted hundreds of his creations in luxurious chess designs in various sizes and wood combinations, such as Sultan Series, Sheffield Series, Empire Series, Centurion Series, Classic Staunton, Morphy Series, Player Series, Professional Series, and many others.
Due to health issues, Mr. Rajesh Sharma retired from active business in 2008. Now, his two sons, Gaurav Sharma and Rishi Sharma (the third generation of the family), have taken over all business affairs, including designing and creating the finest craftsmanship in the best chess products. They introduced several collections such as The Alexander Stallion, Victoria Castle Series, The Kohinoor Series, Saint John Series, Cambridge Series, and many others under The Chess Empire brand. The Chess Empire also produces all reproductions for Jaques of London, a well-established and globally recognized chess company in the industry.
The Chess Empire offers the world's finest chess creations, authentically produced in a clean and healthy environment for their workers; providing free accommodation, electricity, clean water, medical facilities, and 24-hour assistance. Their master craftsmen are like family members, many of whom have been working with them for over 30 years, producing the best chess sets in the world for all chess enthusiasts, employing only skilled workers and not children in the workshop. The brand continuously supplies a diverse range of chess sets, including Staunton, historic, and timeless antique chess sets, to all stores and chess companies in the USA, Europe, the UK, and Australia, with excellent craftsmanship and design expertise since 1962.
