Description
This exceptional piece with incredible elegance immediately captures attention with its majestic presence. Standing 24.2 cm tall and 57 cm in diameter, it features luxurious details: pearls and gold embellishments adorn its base, adding a precious touch to the overall design. The central bowl, a true homage to haute couture, reveals draped motifs that bloom like a fully opened flower. Elegant and refined, this limited-edition work, numbered to only 99 pieces, is an essential art object that elevates a sophisticated table setting.
Made from crystal and complemented with accessories, this piece was crafted using the lost wax technique. It required 400 hours of meticulous workshop work, with a firing time of 17 days for each crystal element. The crown was designed by the same supplier responsible for the metal accessories of Tamara Ralph’s Couture dresses, referencing the iconic elements that adorn her creations. The subtly nuanced hue of the crystal results from blending three shades of pink, creating a unique and refined tone.
Daum is a pinnacle of high-quality craftsmanship combined with a passion for creating luxurious objects.
Discover the story
Daum, the legendary master glassmaker who for over a century has maintained close relationships with the greatest artists of his time, giving their works a second life in crystal and color. From École de Nancy, through Art Nouveau, to decorative arts, from Majorelle to Dalí, Arman, and Hilton McConnico, Daum has embraced every magical encounter between artistic creativity and modern expertise, continuously renewing the union of art and true craftsmanship.
Few brands have collaborated with so many artists: over nearly 140 years, more than 350 exceptional autographs have created an unparalleled legacy—a unique collection of this kind.
How can we translate these works into crystal sculptures? Here is Daum’s secret: a creator of extraordinary objects, with a highly skilled workshop, a laboratory of wonders, and a designer of beautiful items.
Creation Methods
The crystal paste technique is rare and very ancient. It dates back to around 5000 BC (found in the tombs of pharaohs). Long forgotten, it was rediscovered by Daum in 1900 and further developed in 1968. The process is extremely delicate. Products made by combining pieces of crystal in a mold are characterized by graininess, material richness, and soft contours that cannot be achieved with blown glass.
Daum’s signature, the crystal paste—copied but never matched—, is a precious material that gives the object a sculptural dimension and continues to evolve. Crystal paste has the unique property of imparting transparency to the shapes it recreates. The shine of this material, the intensity of colors, and subdued shades give it an unmistakable character.
Crystal paste contains nearly 30% lead. It is produced from specially prepared crystal in kilns. Several factors influence the final color: weighing of materials, mixture proportions, chemical reactions of certain minerals and metals, temperature increases, and cooling in furnaces.
Thanks to the crystal casting and lost wax casting method developed by Daum, reproducing the original is perfect and faithful to the artist’s intent. Currently, Daum is the only crystal producer in the world capable of creating this extraordinary material with such precision. Crystal paste is a substance that has evolved over more than a century, adapting to the whims of master glassmakers’ imaginations. It is through mastery and ongoing research that world-renowned masterpieces are born.
