Description
Opening champagne with a sword is a very original idea! This method is called "sabrage". It originates from Napoleonic tradition - soldiers, to celebrate their victory, would drink champagne by striking the neck of the bottle with a saber.
The luxury Italian company Coltelleri Saladini produces kitchen knives with forged blades. Each blade features an engraved logo of the manufacturer, which confirms authenticity and guarantees quality.
The marking is done during the craft process, when the blade is not yet hardened.
Saladini is very selective in choosing steels - mainly hardened stainless steel with high or 100% carbon content.
For manufacturing blades, Saladini uses two processes: rolling and forging.
The rolled method is used for making knife blades, cigar cutters, and some types of table knives. These blades are cut from steel sheets, whose thickness depends on the intended use of the knife.
The challenging forging process involves blades hammered with a hammer and anvil, used for kitchen and table knives as well as collector’s items. Hand-forging allows for creating the proper shapes of blades, bolsters, and pommels, which are then inserted into the handle.
After tempering, both types of blades are hardened and annealed during heat treatment, which, depending on the steel composition, determines the proper hardness for an optimal cutting edge.
- Saladini’s tradition dates back to the 15th century – when the first “Master Knifemakers” published its statutes. These included goals for protection and a plan for the production and trade of knives. Since then, generations of producers have followed in the footsteps of their ancestors, creating products driven by the same passion and tradition.
It’s worth appreciating Italian craftsmanship – Saladini products are original and made from the highest quality materials.
The company has gained experience through centuries of tradition. It is based in the Italian town of Scarperia. The literal meaning of the name is “knife city”. Here, ancient talents related to knife craftsmanship have been dormant since antiquity. This craft was regarded as an ancient form of art.
Alongside the traditional knife series, Saladini offers a wide range of kitchen knives, table accessories, cutlery, as well as corkscrews and cigar cutters. Each product is made with great care, paying attention to every detail.
It will surely be a unique gift!
