Description
Round bronze lantern signed La Carriére, originating from an early 1900s Lombardian Art Nouveau villa. The structure in the shape of a truncated cone is fully connected, decorated with palms, geometric and phytomorphic motifs, with curved satin glass, one of which is framed in an opening door.
This antique entrance chandelier is perfect for the atrium of a historic building, fully cleaned of oxide and painted with a transparent Zapon. It bears a stamp with the numbers “PS” and La Carriére on the lower profile of the base, referencing the famous Parisian foundry.
Inside, the lantern is fitted with an E27 socket. It is in excellent storage condition, rewired with a new chain and canopy. One of the four curved glass panels is not original.
Elegant antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few stand out as the most significant. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, notably the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI, also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word barocco—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was highly ornate, designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for an exclusive antique that suits your interior.
The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
