Description

Captivating design combined with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship give the essence of the Florence Art brand.

Tradition

Among the streets of Florence, you can breathe art, from S. Croce to Ponte Vecchio, and then again among sculptures, paintings, and furnishings of the Medici villas—an exceptional city, a territory where artists and artisans have found their life force for centuries. The Florence Art brand was born in 1950 from this tradition, the manual skills of Tuscan craftsmen, a love for art and beauty, and a passion for classicism and what made this territory great. It was established as a sculptural company and has always been a manufacturing brand that explores new products, designs them, creates samples, and sculpts them entirely by hand, pantographs them, and prepares them for decoration. All production is carried out entirely in Florentine style; each element is designed by one of our designers and is unique.

Design

With its in-house designers, sculptors, and carpenters, Florence Art can create any type of work, even outside the Florentine style, as evidenced by some projects made for luxury hotels. On every Florence Art item, modifications and adjustments can be made, including fully manual modifications by carpenters. This way, the brand can furnish a bedroom, living room, bathroom, or boudoir according to your design.

Style

The Florentine style is characterized by the way sculptures, finishes, and designs are executed, and these features are unique to a very small area—Florence. Every item made in the Florentine style features carved parts with a current, fresh, and elegant taste; each part is well “toothed,” meaning well-defined, harmonizing with a classic yet youthful aesthetic. The lines of the objects are simultaneously elegant and romantic. Silver, colored, and gold finishes make each line even more refined and youthful.

Pattern and Sculpture

Sculpture is the result of an increasingly challenging Florentine heritage, distinguished by grace and harmony, and is a key element in highlighting and identifying the entire production line. As in Florence, it cannot be confused with other regions. Skilled professionals with strong design abilities and stylistic knowledge are required, such as sculptors who must create models of each item and then sculpt them.

A model is the part used to reproduce the sculpture with a pantograph. To produce it, a scaled drawing of the item is first needed, then it is entirely hand-carved in wood. It is cut into pieces because the pantograph works on segments no wider than about 20 cm and about 190 cm long. The pantograph operator, a specialized professional, duplicates the model into 16 or 24 pieces, which are then assembled by skilled carpenters who know how to join the carved elements. Only these three professionals ensure a highly skilled and valuable production process.

Decoration

Decoration, always entirely handmade, becomes an even more refined element in various finishes. Those made in Florence are incomparable to those from any other region:

“Gouache” decoration, used throughout art history from the Renaissance—born in Florence—and in all other stylistic periods, applies to both gold leaf (e.g., Zecchino and Antique Patina) and genuine silver leaf finishes (Ghiaccio, Bianco, Consumato, Strappato). These can be further treated with techniques like Meccata (covered with a special, ancient color, still used today, called Mekka, in finishes such as Mekka and MeccaAntica), to resemble gold when, in the past, there was no money to buy real gold.
