Description
In this valuable oil painting, artist E. Ferrante is inspired by the works of the Dutch-Italian painter Gaspar Adriaensz van Wittel, known as Casper, and in Italy as Gaspare Vanvitelli. Specifically, it is a reinterpretation of the painting “View of the Tiber with Castel Sant'Angelo and San Pietro in the background” by Vanvitelli. The view from the left bank of the river has its focal point in Castel Sant'Angelo, a papal fortress enhanced with defensive walls overlooking the water. In the background, the panorama features St. Peter's Basilica with the papal palaces, while in the center is the Ponte Sant’Angelo, adorned with statues painted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
