The 2016 Pen of the Year was inspired by precious panels from the "Vieux-Laque" room, made in the imperial manufactory in Beijing. A touch of Asia combined with German craftsmanship: the limited collection Pen of The Year 2016 references Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. After the unexpected death of her beloved husband Franz Stefan in 1765, Maria Theresa transformed one of the rooms in Schönbrunn Palace into a memorial space. The black lacquered tiles imported from Beijing are set into maple wood paneling and decorated with gilded frames.
Each pen from the Year Collection is crafted using precisely selected noble materials, and the production of these pens is shrouded in a touch of mystery.
