The Pen of the Year 2016 was inspired by the precious panels from the "Vieux-Laque" room made in the imperial manufactory in Beijing. A touch of Asia combined with German craftsmanship: the limited edition Pen of The Year 2016 collection references Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. After the unexpected death of her beloved husband Franz Stefan in 1765, Maria Theresa transformed one of the rooms in Schönbrunn Palace into a memorial space dedicated to him. Black lacquered tiles imported from Beijing are set into maple wood paneling and decorated with gilded frames.
