The first is based on the idea that everyday objects should be aesthetic items, but primarily functional, made in an elegant, simple manner - with symmetrical lines, from solid materials, where each element is carefully thought out in the final form.
Art Nouveau is the complete opposite of Thistle - decorated items are a combination of functionality and artistic craftsmanship, refined Art Deco, and asymmetry.
