We are truly proud of our Tappit Hen collection. A set of beautiful Tappit Hen, all handcrafted with care by artisans and created using traditional methods in antique bronze molds.
In 18th-century Scotland, Tappit Hen of heated claret was taken from stagecoach inns to warm and nourish passengers outside the coach. The claret was then poured into a small pewter cup or “Tassie” for drinking. The Tassie was designed to fit into the neck of the measure when empty, and sometimes you can find a Tappit Hen still with its Tassie in place. The earliest known Tappit Hen bears a touch mark of Edinburgh Castle with the date 1669.
