This beautiful Holbein jug was crafted using the finest British pewter molds and traditional bronze casting techniques, dating back to the 18th century.
Named after the famous artist Hans Holbein, who lived in the early 16th century and painted numerous portraits for King Henry VIII and Thomas More. One of these is a sketch of Thomas More's family. In this sketch, if you look to the right near the window, you will see the jug.
An exact replica of this jug was made for Hampton Court Palace, which is why it is called the Holbein Wine Jug.
To commemorate the 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII’s accession to the throne, this pewter jug was commissioned by Hampton Court Palace and was intended to be displayed on the main table in the Great Hall, where King Henry VIII would sit. It is an exceptionally unique item, with only a few pieces made worldwide.
