This beautiful Holbein jug was crafted using the finest British pewter molds and traditional bronze casting techniques from the 18th century.
Named after the famous artist Hans Holbein, who lived in the early 16th century, during which he painted many portraits for King Henry VIII and Thomas More. One of these is a sketch of Thomas More's family. In this sketch, if you look to the right near the window, you can spot the jug.
An exact replica of this jug was made for Hampton Court Palace and is therefore called the Holbein Wine Jug.
To celebrate the 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII's accession to the throne, this pewter jug was commissioned by Hampton Court Palace and was intended to be displayed on the main table in the Great Hall, where King Henry VIII would sit. It is an exceptionally unique item, with only a few copies made worldwide.
