Description

A carved wooden torchère from the inside, in Louis XV style, of Tuscan origin, made around 1970. With traces of oxidized silver gilding, this candlestick is crafted from pine wood, carved on three sides with acanthus leaves and floral motifs inspired by 18th-century designs; it has been cleaned to remove the original finish to reveal the plaster preparation, but minimal traces of silver are still visible.

The candlestick stands 136 cm tall, has been electrified as a floor lamp, currently does not have a lampshade (the one in the photo was worn out and is not available), and has a non-functioning electrical installation.

Elegant antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. There is currently a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was predominant. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Everything stems from the reign of Napoleon. It was characterized by significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Interesting and noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces designed to exude splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Rarely used materials were selectively employed to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also the Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making. The Renaissance style was quite heavy and robust. It used brown stains, cornices, strong bases, and reliefs. These were quite distinctive products, but they also opened up new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets or broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French craftsmen. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos.
