Description

Annibale Scaroni, oil on a maritime landscape of poplars depicting the Columba Fountain monument on the promenade in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. The monument is made of white marble and was created in 1892 by Odoardo Tabacchi.

The fountain is shown from behind; the composition is highly detailed, painted with quick brushstrokes. In the foreground, there is an empty bench, two figures sitting in the shade of palm trees, street lamps along the promenade, and other figures enlivening the scene. The bright blue sky in the background complements this vibrant Italian maritime painting. The work is in good condition, signed on the lower left, unframed. It comes from a private collection in Milan.

Annibale Scaroni was an Italian painter (Brescia 1891–Milan 1983). A student at the Moretto Art School in Brescia, then from 1919 to 1923, he studied with Francesco Paolo Michetti; his works are part of important private collections. The portrait of Commander Enrico Carozzi from 1941 is housed in the Cà Granda Art Gallery; Cavallo all’Aratro from 1937 is in the Modern Art Gallery in Milan. He held numerous solo exhibitions at the most prestigious Italian galleries, including the Scopinich Gallery in Milan (1931); Pesaro Gallery (1935); Dedalo Gallery (1937); Gian Ferrari Gallery (1930 and 1938).

Luxury antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating during Napoleon’s reign. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The Baroque style, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture designed to dazzle and serve as a symbol of opulence. Selective use of materials was employed to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which often closely resembles the historical epoch. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using dark stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These were quite distinctive pieces, offering new possibilities in construction, such as the design of cabinets and other chest-type furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were also popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws and eagle heads are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French creators, paying homage to and preserving the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that each country had its own approach to furniture making, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for exclusive antiques suitable for your interior.

The key aspect of authentic antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each piece, matching the description and photographs. We also offer access to art appraisers, historians, and experts from around the world.
