Description

Annibale Scaroni, oil on a seascape with poplars depicting the monument of Fontanna Columba on the promenade in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. The monument is made of white marble, completed in 1892 by Odoardo Tabacchi.

The fountain is shown from the rear, with a very detailed composition painted with quick brushstrokes. In the foreground, there is an empty bench, two figures sitting in the shade of palm trees, street lamps along the promenade, and other figures enlivening the scene. The bright blue sky in the background complements this vividly colorful Italian maritime painting. The work is in good condition, signed on the lower left, unframed. It comes from a private collection in Milan.

Annibale Scaroni was an Italian painter (Brescia 1891–Milan 1983). A student of the Moretto Art School in Brescia, then from 1919 to 1923, of Francesco Paolo Michetti; his works are in important private collections; the portrait of Commander Enrico Carozzi from 1941 is in the Cà Granda art gallery; Cavallo all’Aratro from 1937 is in the Modern Art Gallery in Milan. He held numerous solo exhibitions at the most prestigious Italian galleries, including the Galeria Scopinich in Milan (1931); Galeria Pesaro (1935); Galleria Dedalo (1937); Galleria Gian Ferrari (1930 and 1938).

Luxury antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevailing Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating from the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Classical style furniture, such as Louis XVI, also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative, luxurious pieces designed to shine with splendor and play a significant role in opulence. Materials were selectively chosen to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and relief decorations. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of sideboards and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, demonstrating admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture styles were perceived differently in each country, giving each style a unique character. This is especially important when searching for exclusive antiques suitable for your interior.

The most important aspect of original antique furniture is authenticity. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with counterfeits. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s compliance with its description and photographs. We also have experts, art appraisers, and historians from around the world at your disposal.
