Baroque inspirations in the contemporary Abbey café are visible in the sculptures, cornices, and friezes made of chocolate and champagne lacquer. Transparent glass windows showcase two internal shelves and an iron interior, while an eye-catching base in chocolate lacquer discreetly offers additional storage space. 

Malabar Factory was established in 2012, alongside the launch of a wide range of decorative Fado guitars and the stylish World Architects furniture collection. It has designed and released a total of 5 exceptional furniture and accessory collections.

Malabar has left its mark at the most prestigious international fairs such as 100% Design London, Maison & Objet, Decorex, Stockholm Furniture Fair, and Seoul International. These are among the top venues for showcasing.

Malabar’s design originates from the Porto area, in northern Portugal, a region with a long and strong tradition of handcrafted products.

The identity of this prestigious brand is based on the national architectural and artistic heritage of the past five centuries. 

International experience and a pursuit of perfection are the details that define such original companies. Emotions, handcrafted execution, and space-inspired design create an explosive mix of exclusive furniture.

Various techniques in producing products from natural wood yield incredible effects, as seen in Malabar’s exceptional collections. An important aspect of the design is the combination of neutral and black colors.

Besides wood, the manufactory uses brass, gold and silver leaf, as well as other high-quality raw materials. 

The Portuguese soul is very colorful and fascinating, clearly reflected in bold furniture designs. 

The company’s name itself derives from Malabar black pepper. Along with other spices, it changed the course of trade history with the discovery of the Cape. The value of original spices prompted Portuguese merchants to chart a daring sea route.

That tradition continues today, as Malabar defines very individual design boundaries and evokes strong emotions with its projects. They are very liberated, seductive, bold, and extremely luxurious.

What raw materials does Malabar use?

The brand employs the most exclusive types of wood, including: ebony, walnut, American walnut, oak, ironwood, beech, basswood, olive wood, bird’s eye, irregular, poplar, satinwood, and ash.

Malabar also uses ancient lacquer techniques. First, copper, gold, silver, pink, and tiger-colored leaf are applied, then lacquered.

The types of glass used by the manufacturer include: dark glass, smoked, gold, antique, and antique brown.

The marble varieties are diverse, including: Sahara, Gray Kenzo, Nero Marquina, Portoro, Gris Douro, Black Gold, Guatemala Verde, Tiger’s Eye, Ochre, Calacatta Vagli, Estremoz, Carrara gold, Carrara, White Extreme, and travertine.

Metals are selected based on efficiency and quality. High-quality premium metals such as copper, stainless steel, and galvanized steel are used. Precisely: chrome, nickel-plated black brass, polished brass, gilded brass, polished copper, antique brass, silver brass, brushed brass, polished brushed brass, brass, and hammered polished copper.
