The Italian company Mepra was founded in 1947, but the entrepreneurial history of the Prandelli family began many years earlier. In 1901, brothers Bortolo, Francesco, and Giovanbattista established the first family business, Prandelli, in the Lumezzane valley along the Gobbia river, to harness kinetic water energy to power machinery.

The Mepra enterprise was created in 1947 by the Prandelli brothers. The first factory producing 18/10 stainless steel cutlery was established in Lumezzane.
