The primordial Titan of astronomy and navigation was the one who held up the celestial spheres. Atlas, as a figure from Greek Mythology is usally identified with the range of the Atlas Mountains. According to the mythology many of Titans were confined to Tartarus (the deep abyss understood as a prison), but not the Atlas. In our culture we can find many artistic interpretations of this Greek myth as a sculptures: for example Lee Lawrie's colossal bronze Atlas in front of Rockefeller Center in New York.
