Salvatore Marinello's painting depicts a still life of peaches, black and white grapes along with a pear, melon, and an ear, all set against a dark baroque background and a simple table. The objects and light are intensely studied and painted with wonderful delicacy, showcasing the variety of fruits. Marinello is inspired by one of many works by Adriaen Coorte, a Dutch Golden Age painter specializing in "tabletop still lifes" with flowers and fruits illuminated from above, with a dark background typical of late 17th-century still life paintings.
