Description

Today, Malabar embraces the ancient Filigree tradition, striving to revive and further develop it through the skilled hands of artisans. On Filisa tables, tabletops emulate the twisting, coiling, and weaving of delicate metal threads, finished with gilding.

Contemporary Filis tables, contrasting with beige and burgundy lacquer, are two classic yet modern pieces decorated with exquisite gilded elements.  This heritage provides us today with symbols that we proudly emulate as the fruits of our ingenuity, as well as symbols that have been embraced and taken as our own, from paths that once crossed in the past.

The Malabar brand was founded in 2012, with the launch of a wide range of decorative Fado guitars and the elegant World Architects furniture collection. It has designed and released a total of 5 exceptional furniture and accessory collections.

Malabar has left its mark at major international fairs such as 100% Design London, Maison & Objet, Decorex, Stockholm Furniture Fair, and Seoul International. These are among the top venues for showcasing.

Malabar’s design originates from the Porto region in northern Portugal, an area with a long and strong tradition of handcrafted products.

The identity of this exclusive brand is rooted in the national architectural and artistic heritage of the past five centuries.

International experience and a pursuit of perfection are the details that define such original companies. Emotions, handcrafted craftsmanship, and space-inspired design create a explosive mix of exclusive furniture.

The use of various techniques in producing products from natural wood yields incredible effects, as seen in Malabar’s exceptional collections. An important aspect of design is the combination of neutral and black colors.

Vivid and striking hues dominate, significantly diverging from classic and stereotypical furniture.

Besides wood, the manufactory uses brass, gold and silver leaf, as well as other high-quality raw materials.

The Portuguese soul is very colorful and fascinating, clearly visible in bold furniture designs.

The company’s name itself derives from Malabar black pepper. Along with other spices, it changed the course of trade history with the discovery of the Cape. The value of original spices prompted Portuguese merchants to chart a daring sea route.

This remains true today, as Malabar continues to define highly individual design boundaries and evoke strong emotions with its projects. They are very liberated, seductive, bold, and extremely luxurious.

And these are exactly the kinds of products we love and feature on the My Luxury Products platform.

What raw materials does Malabar use in its production?

The company employs the most luxurious types of wood, including: ebony, walnut, American walnut, oak, ironwood, beech, basswood, olive wood, bird’s eye, burl, poplar, satinwood, and ash.

Malabar also uses ancient lacquer techniques. First, copper, gold, silver, pink, and tiger-colored leaf is applied, then lacquered.

The types of glass used by the manufacturer include: dark glass, smoked, gold, antique, and antique brown.

The marble varieties are diverse, including: Sahara, grey Kenzo, Nero Marquina, Portoro, Gris Douro, Black Gold, Guatemala Verde, Tiger Skin, Ochre, Calacatta Vagli, Estremoz, Carrara gold, Carrara, White Extremez, and travertine.

Metals are selected based on efficiency and quality. High-grade premium metals such as copper, stainless steel, and galvanized steel are used. Precise options include chrome, nickel-plated black brass, polished brass, gilded brass, polished copper, antique brass, silver brass, brushed brass, polished brass, and hammered polished copper.

We would be happy to arrange a meeting and present all available materials about the Malabar brand. Our Luxury Products team will advise and select the most suitable furnishings and accessories for your interiors.
