Description
Bronze chandelier, gilded in Empire style, with obelisks and gilded angels, featuring 23 lights—15 mounted on curved arms and 8 internal lamps that enhance the decorative effect of the crystal refraction. Originating from the second half of the 20th century, it is in good condition and fully functional.
Elegant balloon-shaped structure made of gilded bronze, adorned with festoons and rows of crystal pearls connecting from the upper crown to the larger-diameter crown in the middle of the chandelier.
The upper crown is topped with curved crystal leaves and decorated with botanical and floral elements in bronze, along with a garland of flowers and leaves gilded in a fusion to increase the value and sophistication of the chandelier, whose gilding shows no obvious signs of wear.
The central gold crown is also made of a round embossed frame with botanical motifs, set within an octagonal structure of transparent, faceted crystal that, thanks to its transparency and the internal lights, emphasizes a magical reflected light effect.
On this central crown are five groups of gilded bronze arms, each consisting of three branches decorated with botanical motifs and beads, topped with a large crystal obelisk. The lights are intertwined with figures of seated and absorbed bronze putti.
This Empire-style chandelier comes from a private residence in Milan; it is an Italian creation from around 1960, in good condition, fully restored electrically, with E14 candle sockets and a maximum power of 900 watts.
Ideal placement would be in a living room or dining area; thanks to its extreme classicism and romantic lines, it is highly versatile and easy to incorporate into any interior setting.
Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts for high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture from the 19th century is dominated by the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, originating during Napoleon’s reign. It heavily references Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws strongly from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture designed to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, with moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of sideboards and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Claw of a lion, eagle heads – these are common motifs especially in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce furniture crafted in this manner, drawing inspiration from Italian or French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style in a given nation had its own distinct character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior. The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the buyer's perspective, as the market is flooded with many counterfeit items.
