Description
Bronze chandelier, gilded in Empire style, with obelisks and gilded angels, featuring 23 lights—15 mounted on curved arms and 8 internal lamps that enhance the decorative effect of the crystal refraction. Originating from the second half of the 20th century, it is in good condition and fully functional.
Elegant balloon-shaped structure made of gilded bronze, decorated with festoons and rows of crystal pearls connecting from the upper crown to a larger-diameter crown in the middle of the chandelier.
The upper crown is topped with curved crystal leaves and adorned with botanical and floral elements made of bronze, as well as a garland of flowers and leaves gilded in a fusion to increase the chandelier’s value and sophistication, with the gilding showing no noticeable wear.
The central gold crown is also crafted from a round embossed frame with botanical motifs and set within an octagonal shape of transparent, faceted crystal, which, thanks to its transparency and the internal lights, emphasizes a magical reflected light effect.
On this central crown, there are five groups of gilded bronze arms, each consisting of three stems decorated with botanical motifs and beads, and a large crystal obelisk. The lights are intertwined with figures of seated and absorbed brown putti.
This Empire-style chandelier comes from a private Milanese residence; it is an Italian creation from around 1960, in good condition, fully restored electrically with E14 candle sockets and a maximum power of 900 watts.
Ideal placement would be in a living room or dining room; thanks to its extreme classicism and romantic lines, it is highly versatile and easy to incorporate into any setting.
Beautiful antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture dates back to the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the Victorian English style. Toward the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture originates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It was inspired by the reign of Napoleon, heavily referencing Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws strongly from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly ornate pieces designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has had on modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times also inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads – these are common sights in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands recreate furniture crafted in this style, drawing inspiration from Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that each country perceived furniture making differently, so each style in a given nation had its own distinct character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior. The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the buyer’s perspective, as the market is flooded with many counterfeits.
