Description
Ancient miniature on ivory depicting a Lady's Portrait signed "Bachini". The girl is portrayed from the waist up, wearing a blue dress with a wide neckline that reveals her shoulders. The depicted young woman undoubtedly belongs to the aristocratic or wealthy class, probably from Southern Italy in the early decades of the 19th century, also considering the Bourbon-made jewelry, the precious gemstones framing her face, a complete set of earrings, and a diadem at the center of an intricate hairstyle gathering soft blond curls.
The miniature has been beautifully painted on an ivory plaque with a diameter of 7.4 cm and is signed Bacchini in the lower right corner.
It is presented in a round frame made of gilded bronze, decorated with geometric motifs; all set within a square frame made of ebonized wood.
The miniature comes from a private collection in Milan and is in good condition, with only minimal paint retouching matching the dress, consistent with the dating of the early 19th century.
Luxe antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, the creation, and design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones can be distinguished. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, dominated by the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Everything originated from the reign of Napoleon. It was characterized by significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese "barocco"—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly representative pieces designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique, selectively used materials were employed to further emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the past era. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making art. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets or broadly defined chest furniture. During this period, mythology and ancient times were also of interest, so supports and legs often took animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands recreate such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French artisans. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character in a given nation. This is especially important when searching for elegant antique pieces suitable for your interior.
The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial from the buyer’s perspective, as many forgeries circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos. We also have access to art experts, historians, and specialists from around the world.
