Description

Ancient miniature on ivory depicting a Lady's Portrait signed "Bachini". The girl is portrayed half-length in a blue dress with a wide neckline that reveals her shoulders. The depicted young woman undoubtedly belongs to the aristocratic or wealthy class, probably from Southern Italy in the early decades of the 19th century, also considering the Bourbon-made jewelry, the precious stones framing her face, a complete set of earrings, and a diadem at the center of an intricate hairstyle gathering soft blond curls.

The miniature has been beautifully painted on an ivory plaque with a diameter of 7.4 cm and is signed Bacchini in the lower right corner.

It is presented in a round frame made of gilded bronze, decorated with geometric motifs; the entire piece is set in a square ebonized wood frame.

The miniature comes from a private collection in Milan and is in good condition, with only minimal paint retouching matching the dress, consistent with the dating of the early 19th century.

Luxurious antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a specific character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture reflects the 19th century, especially the Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Empire-style furniture dates from the period between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Everything stems from the reign of Napoleon. It was characterized by significant influence from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.

Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Interesting and noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese "barocco"—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly representative pieces designed to dazzle with splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, often using brown stains, with cornices, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. They also drew inspiration from mythology and ancient times, with supports and legs taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands recreate furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, reflecting admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character in a given nation. This is especially important when searching for elegant antiques suitable for your interior.

The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this is crucial for buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market.
