Description
Emilian dresser from 1700, with two drawers, slightly curved, entirely veneered with walnuts, and decorated with inlays of fruitwood, ebony, and boxwood.
This masterpiece of Emilian carpentry in Louis XV style features a front with two large drawers with geometric inlays of boxwood and thuja, which have three asymmetrical inlays of walnut and thuja, defined by double lines of ebony and boxwood.
This ancient Emilian chest of drawers dates from the second half of the 18th century, with well-balanced proportions; even the top and sides feature geometric inlays, while the lower front rail has a mixed profile that connects to the curved line of the feet.
The furniture is in relatively good carpentry condition (it has been restored in the past), but the finish requires complete renovation, which would highlight the chromatic differences of the woods used.
Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing appreciation for high-quality vintage items that possess character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Several key styles stand out among antique furniture. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style. Early in this century, it includes neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe, and Victorian English styles. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign, with strong references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI style, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique pieces in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate, luxurious furniture meant to impress with splendor and play a significant role in opulence. Materials were chosen selectively to emphasize the grandeur of these pieces.
Today, we can see how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which often echoes the grandeur of the past. The Renaissance style, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, also left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, often using dark stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These pieces were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient themes were popular, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Today, many global brands recreate such furniture, inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute to the beauty of Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture styles varied by country, each with its unique character. This is especially relevant when seeking an elegant antique piece suited to your interior.
The key to prestigious antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos.
