Description
Emilian dresser from 1700, with two drawers, lightly curved, entirely veneered with walnuts, juniper, and thuja, beautifully decorated with inlays of fruitwood, ebony, and boxwood.
This masterpiece of Emilian woodworking in Louis XV style features two large drawers with geometric inlays of thuja juniper, which have three asymmetrical inlays of walnut juniper, defined by double lines of ebony and boxwood.
This ancient Emilian chest of drawers dates from the second half of the 18th century, has well-balanced proportions, with an even top and sides featuring geometric inlays, while the lower front rail has a mixed profile that connects with the curved line of the feet.
The furniture is in relatively good carpentry condition (it has been restored in the past), but the finish requires complete renovation, which highlights the chromatic differences of the woods used.
Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Several major styles characterize antique furniture, but a few stand out. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, during the reign of the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by Napoleon’s reign. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture, associated with Louis XVI style, also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable and noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, whose name derives from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces designed to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these works.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture-making. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cupboards and broadly speaking, chest furniture. They often featured mythological and ancient motifs, with supports and legs shaped like animals.
Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style its unique character. This is especially important when searching for an elegant antique piece suited to your interior.
The key aspect of prestigious antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as the market is flooded with fakes. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the product’s authenticity and compliance with the description and photos.
