In this marvelous oil on canvas, the painter draws inspiration from Capricci Architettonici, a 17th-century genre of painting characterized by depictions of fantastical architectures or perspectival inventions, often combined with freely sketched elements borrowed from reality. In fact, much like in Capricci, here we admire genuine sculptural and architectural elements, but arranged in an imaginary way, as well as various figures inspired by sacred and secular stories.
