This beautiful oil on canvas by Francoise Vigneron was inspired by oriental and Arab landscapes of the French painter Charles-Théodore Frère, who, after traveling through the Middle East, became a fully orientalist painter. Using short, mixed brushstrokes, Vigneron was able to depict a scene with remarkable detail. The figures, architecture, and landscape are highly naturalistic in their presentation.
