Description
A traditional hand-cast measure made from the finest British pewter using antique bronze molds.
It appears in the Hollywood hit "Harry Potter".
In 18th-century Scotland, Tappit Hen with mulled wine claret was taken from coaching inns to warm and nourish passengers in the wagon outside. The claret was then poured into a small pewter cup or “Tassie” for drinking. Tassie was designed to fit into the neck of the measure when empty, and sometimes you can find a Tappit Hen still with its Tassie in situ. The earliest known Tappit Hen bears a touch mark of Edinburgh Castle, dated 1669.
