Description
Discover the Cavalière Andalouse by Daum, exquisitely crafted from crystal in shades of amber, gray, and blush pink. This magnificent piece captures the essence of Andalusia, celebrating the tradition and elegance of Doma Vaquera, the revered equestrian sport in southern Spain.
The Andalusian rider is sculpted in a dynamic pose, showcasing graceful gestures and a magnificent horse. His flowing skirt, depicted in full motion, adds a realistic touch to this piece. The second item from the Riders of the World series, after Rider of the Sands, features a rider adorned with intricate details, including a handcrafted gold leaf, highlighting Daum's commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.
Daum is renowned for top-quality artisan craftsmanship combined with a passion for creating beautiful objects.
Learn the history
Daum, the legendary master glassmaker, has maintained close relationships with the greatest artists of his time for over a century, giving their works a second life in crystal and color. From École de Nancy, through Art Nouveau, to decorative arts, from Majorelle to Dalí, Arman, and Hilton McConico, Daum has embraced every magical encounter between artistic creativity and modern knowledge, continually renewing the union of art and exceptional craftsmanship.
Few brands have collaborated with so many artists: over nearly 140 years, more than 350 unique autographs have created an unparalleled legacy, a one-of-a-kind collection of this kind.
How can we translate these works into crystal sculptures? Here is Daum’s secret: a creator of extraordinary objects, with a highly skilled workshop, a laboratory of wonders, designing incomparable items.
Creation methods
The crystal paste technique is rare and very ancient. It appeared around 5000 BC (found in the tombs of pharaohs). Long forgotten, it was rediscovered by Daum in 1900 and further developed in 1968. The process is extremely delicate. Items made by combining pieces of crystal mixed in molds feature graininess, material richness, and soft contours that cannot be achieved with blown glass.
Daum’s specialty, copied but never matched — the crystal paste, a precious material that gives sculptures a unique dimension, continues to evolve. Crystal paste has the special property of imparting transparency to the shapes it recreates. The brilliance of this material, the intensity of colors, and subdued shades give it an unparalleled character.
Crystal paste contains nearly 30% lead. It is produced from specially prepared crystal in large vats. Several factors influence the final color: weighing of materials, mixture proportions, chemical reactions of certain minerals and metals, temperature increases, and cooling in ovens.
Thanks to Daum’s lost-wax casting method and crystal casting techniques, reproducing the original is perfect and aligns with the artist’s vision. Currently, Daum is the only crystal manufacturer in the world capable of creating this exceptional material with such precision. Crystal paste is a substance that has evolved over more than a century, adapting to the whims of master glassmakers’ imagination. It is through mastery and ongoing research that world-renowned masterpieces are born.
