Description

Para vases from the Empire style in ivory and gold, circa 1800, with two handles, palm vases, made of carved wood with botanical motifs in the Empire style, decorated with ivory-colored lacquer and noble gold. The round vases rest on a square base adorned with geometric grooves, which were added later to the original vase.

Like most altar furnishings, the back of the vases is unadorned. Originally, they were placed on the side altar, against the wall, so that worshippers could view them only from the front, not from behind. The overall condition is good, with signs of wear consistent with dating to the early 19th century. One handle has been restored. They could serve as magnificent bases for antique Empire-style lamps.

Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be a perfect idea for interior arrangement. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a specific character and soul. It’s a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of {traditional|classic} and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.

Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few stand out as the most important. Eclectic furniture originates from the 19th century, notably the popular Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Beautiful Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, inspired by the reign of Napoleon. It features significant similarities and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.

Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also strongly references ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Baroque, derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl—was characterized by highly ornate furniture designed to exude splendor and play a prominent role in luxury. Selectively used luxurious materials emphasized the grandeur of these pieces.

Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historic era. The Renaissance style also left a significant mark, flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries and greatly impacting furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, cornices, sturdy bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly defined chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired their design, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.

Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance-style furniture. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, drawing inspiration from Italian and French creators. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that each country perceived furniture manufacturing differently, so each style had its unique character. This is especially crucial when searching for a luxurious antique that suits your interior.

The most important aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. Ultimately, this matters most to buyers, as many forgeries circulate on the market.
