Description
Pair of antique crystal appliqué with three lamps from the late 19th century.
These vintage lamps are Italian-made, originating from the late 19th century, from a private residence by Lake Garda. They are wall sconces with a very light and versatile design, in good condition after renovation and equipped with a new electrical system. They fit three E14 bulbs.
Brass construction, made from a square and gold-plated cross-section, shaped like a shield, entirely covered with three rows of beads, decorated with an original crystal latticework, forming a central, background motif of connected rhombuses with bright stars.
Three curved arms end with embossed iron collars.
Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior design. Currently, there is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage products that possess a distinct character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the creation of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few key ones stand out. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, marked by the prevailing Biedermeier style. Its early 20th-century variants include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, characterized by significant influence from Roman and Greek decorative motifs.
Neoclassical furniture reflects the Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Notable and interesting are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly ornate pieces designed to radiate splendor and serve a luxurious role. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is often designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and robust, using brown stains, moldings, strong bases, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. There was also an interest in mythology and ancient times, so supports and legs often took animal forms.
Lion’s paws, eagle heads—these are common features in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands recreate such furniture inspired by Italian and French artisans, as a tribute and preservation of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, giving each style its unique character. This is especially important when searching for an elegant antique that suits your interior.
The key aspect of stylish antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market.
