A modern oval center table inspired by the architecture of ancient Greece - Insidherland

The Ionic central tables are based on one of the three classical architectural styles developed in ancient Greek temples called Ionic. Unlike the Doric, the oldest and most massive order, the columns of the Ionic and Corinthian orders consisted of three elements: the base, shaft, and capital. As symbols of worship, over the centuries many impressive temples were destroyed or simply fell into ruin.

Remnants of Ionic temples with their beautifully preserved columns inspired the creation of Ionic central tables, each featuring a three-part column missing one of its elements. This approach to incomplete Ionic columns uniquely presents unadorned forms of the base and capital, as the missing shaft is replaced with a modern metal structure comprising two separate elements. The Ionic central tables, counteracting the process of ancient temple construction, have a delicate conical shape that allows for less contact with the floor, referencing how free modern forms would be used in the three-sided construction of a classical temple.
