A modern mirror inspired by mountain nature - Insidherland

After creating the Into the Woods shelf, which represents a long walk through a Swedish forest towards the mountain summit, Joana Santos Barbosa conceived the mirror-tuna Kvarna to showcase what she saw upon reaching the peak. The irregular shapes of the frozen lake, formed by a simple mirror, are as true to reality as distant memory allows. The complexity of the dense grove surrounding the lake gathers 88 cast brass elements, each depicted as a single tree, in a handcrafted detailed process of adaptation and connection between the elements. To complete this intention, the aging effect adds the final touch to the contrast between shadows and illuminated tree tops seen from above. The rectangular shape of the mirror frame allows the viewer to look directly at the landscape through the camera's viewfinder, recreating exactly the moment when Joana did not have the chance to photograph.
