Description
For this Lucky Set, we selected three different racing cars of the CMC Ferrari D50 type, which were driven by Scuderia driver Peter Collins with great success in the 1956 Grand Prix races, but at the same time became a “tragic hero”.
Additionally, this model set will be delivered with a display case and a driver figurine. The Lucky set is available only as a complete collection.
The extraordinary driving talent of young Brit Peter Collins (born November 6, 1931) was not hidden from Enzo Ferrari. That’s why Peter Collins was signed by Scuderia from 1956. The “youngster” started from the very first race – his chances for the World Drivers’ Championship were very good. He remained modest and courteous.
At the last race of the 1956 GP season in Monza, Collins made racing history: his selfless decision and generous tribute to his rivals for the World Championship decided the outcome of the championship. Collins is the only Formula 1 driver in history who voluntarily relinquished a potential world title in favor of a teammate. He justified this decision by stating that he was still young enough and had many chances to win the World Championship in the coming years. Unfortunately, Collins died two years later in an accident at the Nürburgring during the 1958 German Grand Prix.
1. With starting number 14, Peter Collins began the race at the French Grand Prix. It was the fifth round of the 1956 World Championship. After an exciting race, Peter Collins ultimately won with a narrow margin ahead of his teammate Eugenio Castellotti, who finished second.
2. With starting number 2, Peter Collins competed in the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Both Ferrari drivers drove the D 50 with a long nose. To better distinguish the two cars, Collins’ D50 nose tip was painted with a dark green stripe. A driving error ended Collins’ race.
3. The final race of the season at Monza decided the title. Fangio, Collins, or Behra – that was the question at the start of the race. Fangio took over Collins’ car and was able to secure his fourth World Drivers’ Championship title.
Information about Classic Model Cars (CMC)
Fantastic products combined with the highest quality finish give us the synonym of the German brand Classic Model Cars. It’s a true homage to handcrafted products that impress with their unique elegance and luxury.
CMC is one of the leading companies producing miniature vintage cars. The company creates classic and collector’s models using authentic materials and fabrics.
Since 1995, CMC has had its own manufacturing facility with highly qualified engineers and staff in China. As a result of months of research, they produce various models of classic cars, assembled by hand from over 1800 individual parts. The manufactory uses high-quality materials to fully preserve the “faithfulness to the original” of each vehicle model.
The company focuses on all major and popular collector scales: 1:12, 1:18, 1:24, 1:43. The first model produced by the company was in 1:24 scale – the iconic Mercedes-Benz SSK from 1930. Built in 1995, it received many prestigious awards.
Each element is carefully assembled by hand. Instruments on the dashboard are mounted separately. The seats are covered with fabric or leather. The floor lining is laid inside and in the trunk. The replicas replicate even the smallest details according to the original plans of the vehicle.
