MADE IN SHEFFIELD
All pewter products are handcrafted in the world-famous manufacturing city of Sheffield. Sheffield has been synonymous with high-quality production for centuries. Although somewhat smaller than in previous decades, this trend continues today, and Sheffield remains a leader in the production of fine cutlery, steel, and pewter.
A HISTORY OF EXCELLENCE SINCE 1977
Pewter, an easy-to-work alloy, has been with us since biblical times. The earliest mentions of pewter in the UK date back to Roman times around 250 AD. The significance of pewter as a metal and commodity did not fully develop until the Middle Ages. This period, often called the “Golden Age of English Yeoman,” marked the transformation of the material into everyday items, made possible by economic growth, especially through the mass export of British wool and textiles, and increasing access to raw materials for pewter production.
Pewter production remained a cottage industry until 1770, when Jessop and Hancock developed a new pewter alloy in Sheffield, containing antimony instead of lead and a bit of copper. It became known as Britannia metal, allowing it to be given a bright shine. Soon, a new manufacturing method called metal spinning was developed, leading to a significant increase in pewter product production. As a result, a lightweight, highly refined product emerged, quickly becoming a popular alternative to more expensive silver-plated items.

Each ashes urn is manufactured entirely in our Sheffield factory, where each piece is skillfully handcrafted and then inspected to ensure that only the best items leave our facility. This particular design is suitable for storing a token amount of ashes as a lasting keepsake and features a screw-in top thread on the base that holds the ashes securely in place. Each urn has a classic brush-style satin finish and is then placed in a luxurious black velvet bag before being placed in a simple but elegant cream and black presentation box. |
