Description
19th-century porcelain tea service consisting of a large teapot and six cups with saucers. The teapot features gilded profiles and two large hand-painted landscape images; the lid has three small pictures referencing the decorations of the bowls, and a half-gilded knob handle. The spout has a zoo-morphic head decorated with gold, and the refined arms are always gilded. The cylindrical bowls are outlined in gold at the edges and on the handle, depicting rural northern landscapes with architecture. The gilded saucer resembles those decorations found on three small tables. Some of them bear no marks other than numbers. Currently undergoing restoration to improve some minor "fissures" on certain cups.
Exclusive antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for interior decoration. There is a growing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that possess a distinct character and soul. This is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of classic and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly prominent. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, during which the Biedermeier style was dominant. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Empire-style furniture and accessories date from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. Everything was influenced by Napoleon’s reign, which imposed a strong resemblance to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Noteworthy are antique products in Rococo and Louis XV styles. The next is Baroque, a term derived from Portuguese "barocco"—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate brilliance and serve a luxurious purpose. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classical furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. The Renaissance style also had a significant impact. Flourishing in the 15th and 16th centuries, it left a lasting mark on furniture design. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and solid, often using brown stains, moldings, sturdy bases, and bas-reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also opened new possibilities, such as the construction of cabinets and broadly speaking, chest furniture. Mythology and ancient times inspired these designs, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance-style furniture. Many global brands now reproduce such pieces, inspired by Italian and French craftsmen. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It’s important to remember that furniture production varied by country, and each style had its own character. This is especially relevant when seeking an elegant antique piece suitable for your interior.
The key aspect of elite antique furniture is originality. This is ultimately crucial for buyers, as many counterfeits circulate on the market. Luxury Products provides documentation confirming the authenticity of each item, matching the description and photos. We also have experts—art appraisers, historians, and specialists from around the world—at your disposal.
