Small-time criminal Ben Silensky is determined to free his girlfriend Carli­ta and son Kyle from the quarantined city where they live, risking an impulsive crime, and then teaming up with Carli­ta’s equally desperate cousin, Nando. Once they get out, Nando is convinced they will find a place in the open prison where his uncle works, which has unknowingly become a colony of survivalists called Funland, managed by the entrepreneurial convict Plan John.

Within Funland itself, guard Doyle Johnson is shocked when his ex-wife leaves their son Austin in his care. Fearing the helpless situation he’s found himself in, he recruits Katherine Aaronovich, a former prison doctor, to help. But Aaronovich’s traumatic past has left her with her own weaknesses, along with radical theories about the nature of the epidemic that threatens their entire lives.

As the last traces of civilization crumble, Funland may turn out to be the safest or the most dangerous place of all, depending on who comes out on top, and what cannot be united will inevitably be torn apart.
