Description
“In The Way of the Worm, Campbell’s cosmic trilogy reaches a triumphant conclusion.” - NS. Joshi
Book 3 in the Daoloth’s Three Births trilogy.
Contemporary times or something very similar. Dominic Sheldrake has retired from lectures and lives alone. His son Toby is married and has a young daughter. The occult Noble family is more active than ever. Their cult now openly operates as the Church of the Eternal Trinity and has spread worldwide. The local branch occupies the top floors of Starview Tower, a waterfront skyscraper in Liverpool. To Dominic’s horror, Toby and his wife Claudine are deeply involved, and he suspects their young daughter Macy is also involved.
Dominic allows his son to persuade him to meet at the church, where he encounters all three generations of the noble family. Although Christian Noble is nearly a hundred years old, he is more energetic than ever – inhumanly so. The family alternates delivering apocalyptic sermons that hint at dark secrets masked by the Bible and a lurking future. To further investigate, Dominic undergoes a ritual offered by the Church, which grants the ability to travel mentally through time. Before he can escape to the present, he has a vision of the monstrous fate awaiting the world.
Dominic uncovers a secret that the nobility will surely refuse to reveal. Although he has retired from the police, Jim helps him uncover the truth, and Roberta publishes it on her online blog. It becomes the subject of a court case, whose outcomes seem to defeat the nobility only to see them return in a terrifyingly altered form. Now Dominic and his friends are at their mercy, and is there anywhere in the world to hide? Even if they somehow manage to deal with the nobility, they might not escape the alien apocalypse that all the events of the trilogy are increasingly bringing closer…
