Description
Set of gilded wooden lamps in vases from 1700 Palm trees composed of two altar bases made of intricately carved and gilded pine wood with an octagonal base; the back is flat, without carvings, finished in Sienese yellow color, with a small armature holding artificial flowers. The condition is good, consistent with the age. They are mounted on a large socket holder and a cylindrical silk lampshade in gold color; electrical cables, plugs, and switches have been replaced. The dimensions of the base itself are height 30 cm – 15 x 15; the height of the lampshade is 25 cm in diameter.
Palm trees (or palm stands) are flower vases that were placed on altars as decorations; they often have a smaller depth and are unadorned at the back, as they are positioned against walls in side altars. The main altars differ, where they are made in a circular shape. Various materials were used, mainly wood, copper or brass sheet metal, embossed or transformed into tiles, but also cast bronze. Palms, symbolizing the victory of Christianity, are replaced by artificial flowers made from various materials such as fabrics, sheet metal, beads. They are perfect as decorations for any interior, especially as lamp bases.
Exceptional antique furniture and accessories can be an excellent idea for decorating our interiors. Today, there is an increasing number of enthusiasts of high-quality vintage items that have a specific character and soul. It is a nod to history, craftsmanship, and the design of {traditional|classic} and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its distinctive features.
Many styles characterize antique furniture, but a few are particularly notable. Eclectic furniture refers to the 19th century, dominated by the Biedermeier style. Its early variations include neo-Gothic, Gothic, Rococo, Louis-Philippe style, and finally the English Victorian style. By the end of the century, these styles evolved into pseudo-classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Original Empire-style furniture dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It originated during Napoleon’s reign, which imposed a strong resemblance and references to Roman and Greek ornamentation.
Neoclassical furniture is associated with Louis XVI style, which also draws heavily from ancient architecture. Interesting and noteworthy are antique products in Rococo style and Louis XV. Next is Baroque, a term derived from the Portuguese word 'barocco'—meaning an irregularly developed pearl. These were highly decorative pieces meant to radiate splendor and play a significant role in luxury. Unique materials were selectively used to emphasize the grandeur of these items.
Today, we can observe how much the Baroque style influenced modern classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the historical period. An important style is also Renaissance, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and left a significant mark on furniture craftsmanship. Renaissance furniture was quite heavy and massive, using brown stains, moldings, sturdy pedestals, and reliefs. These products were quite distinctive but also introduced new possibilities, such as the construction of credenzas and broadly speaking, chest furniture. They also reflected an interest in mythology and antiquity, with supports and legs often taking animal forms.
Lion paws, eagle heads—these are common motifs in Renaissance style. Currently, many global brands reproduce such furniture, inspired by Italian and French craftsmen. This reflects admiration and respect for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture production was perceived differently in each country, so each style had its unique character. This is especially important when searching for a luxurious antique that fits your interior.
