Bubinga
Originates from equatorial Africa, more widespread in countries surrounding the Gulf of Guinea. Despite being very hard wood, it is easy to work with. Bubinga is widely used in violin making. Its color ranges from rather light brown-pink to dark purple-brown, with a fine texture and not too porous, often with visible veins.
Cocobolo
Grows in Central America from Mexico to Panama. Dark orange color characterized by dark brown veins. It is quite difficult to work with and glue due to its oiliness. It has roughly the same stiffness and hardness properties as ebony and is widely used in luthiery.
Ebony
