A bit of history

Both founders, Luciano and Marilena Tellatin, started their careers in pottery when they were just sixteen and decided to establish their own company after years working as employees in two different antique factories. In a garage at their home, and later in a shed, in 1982, the founders created a story that continues to this day. Deep passion and dedication are the elements through which the founders lead the company, supported by young entrepreneurship—namely their son Alberto. He joined the family business in 2000 after earning a teaching degree from the Art Institute of Nove: representing the future of a brand that still has much to offer clients and partners.

With over 30 years of experience, elegant collections, harmonious forms, respect for craftsmanship—primarily artisanal and traditional work—and endless investment in the ceramic heritage of antique Nove: these are the qualities that make Ceramiche ML exceptionally unique, dynamic, respectful of ancient pottery traditions, yet enthusiastically looking toward the future.

The city where everything takes place is located in the province of Vicenza. This place has been recognized as one of the best examples of Italian ceramic tradition since the 16th century: a land enriched with artisanal knowledge, artists, sculptors, and ancient factories known worldwide. The Nove and Bassano regions are full of old manufactories whose work contributed to building the fame of the ceramics district, decorating homes' furniture worldwide.

The history of this area tells of a long tradition rooted in the 17th century, and its fortune is due to several factors: the presence of underground plastic clay, "lottame" (a limestone rich in mineral silica), kaolin, and the possibility of using the Brenta River for transporting finished products and wood for kilns, as well as powering water mills used for mixing clay and grinding stones at the riverbed.

An additional factor fostering the prestigious ceramic tradition in this region was the Venetian Senate decree. In fact, in the 17th century, the growing and increasingly widespread demand for fine ceramics in China prompted Dutch ceramists to imitate these works, flooding the Venice market with their products. Consequently, in 1728, the Venetian Senate decided to increase domestic production through tax reliefs for those who chose to produce porcelain and improved majolica production, thus managing the birth of the ceramic district in Nove.

The production area of the district still focuses on the municipalities of Nove and Bassano, surrounded by a dense network of companies that have contributed to the region’s worldwide reputation for excellence and uniqueness, features that cannot be found elsewhere in Italy.
