We are pleased to present to you the exclusive pens from the Shavout collection by Urso. Shavout (Hebrew: שבועות) – (the symbol is engraved on the pen) – the Jewish Feast of Weeks, also called the Feast of Harvests, Pentecost, or Green Festival, celebrated on the 6th day of the month of Sivan — in the diaspora also the following day. It commemorates the giving of the Torah to Moses on Mount Sinai and falls seven weeks after Passover (hence called Pentecost). This holiday is also associated with ancient agricultural customs. During the festival, synagogues are decorated in green. Some Orthodox Jews spend the entire night studying the Torah (Tikkun Leil Shavuot) to prepare for its renewal. Traditional holiday foods include dairy dishes and special loaves made from new grain.

The clip of this extraordinary pen is a replica of a mezuzah. Mezuzah (Hebrew: מזוזה, doorpost, doorframe) – a small container made of wood, metal, or glass, containing a rolled parchment with two passages from the Torah (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21). The parchment is rolled from left to right so that the text can be read immediately when unrolled. Letters are written on the rolled parchment to mark the top and bottom. It often also includes the word Shaddai (Hebrew: שדי, Almighty). This text also appears in the Shema prayer. Only a qualified scribe (sofer) is authorized to write the text on the parchment — only then is the mezuzah kosher. Some Jewish factions or emigrant Jews treat the mezuzah as a talisman with protective functions, but its purpose is entirely different. The Talmud states that the mezuzah is one of the seven commandments given by God to Israel out of love, and it should be treated accordingly.

The mezuzah is hung on doorframes or entrances of Jewish homes at hand’s reach as a literal fulfillment of the commandment given by JHWH. It should be placed on the right side of the entrance, slanted, at a height of 2/3, and fixed permanently, preferably nailed. The written parchments are checked periodically for damage. In homes, this is done every seven years; in public places, every fifty years. One can live in a room without a mezuzah for up to 30 days. Its placement is preceded by a blessing.

The limited series consists of 50 pieces, in various colors, and is dedicated to the Jewish people's exodus from Egypt after the Ten Commandments were announced on Mount Sinai.
