The history of the manufactory is inextricably linked with its founder Hans Wilsdorf. Who in 1905 established a company in London specializing in watch distribution.
This visionary already predicted that wristwatches would become very fashionable! And he was right about that.
Rolex is a leader in many technologies used in the construction of these luxury products. A breakthrough moment was the production of the first waterproof watch - Oyster Perpetual.
The pursuit of incredible precision led Rolex to a prestigious success in 1910. The Watch Rating Centre in Bienne awarded the brand a chronometric certificate.
Four years later, in 1914, Kew Observatory awarded this Swiss company a "Class A" precision certificate, which was reserved only for marine chronometers.
- It was this date that made Rolex a synonym for precision!
The company officially moved to Geneva, where it was registered in 1920 as Montres Rolex S.A. Seven years later, something unprecedented for that time happened. Rolex decided to promote its product in an innovative way.
For this purpose, young Mercedes Gleitze swam with it in the canal for 10 hours. The watch remained in perfect condition.
To commemorate this event, an advertisement was published on the front page of the Daily Mail, spanning the entire page. This event marked the birth of the Testimonee concept.
