This visionary already predicted that wristwatches would become very fashionable! And he was right.
Rolex is a pioneer in many technologies used in the construction of these original products. A breakthrough moment was the production of the first waterproof watch - Oyster Perpetual.
The pursuit of extraordinary precision led Rolex to a prestigious success in 1910. The Watch Rating Centre in Bienne awarded the brand a chronometer certificate.
Four years later, in 1914, Kew Observatory granted this Swiss company a "Class A" precision certificate, which was reserved only for marine chronometers.
It was this date that made Rolex synonymous with precision!
The company officially moved to Geneva, where it was registered in 1920 as Montres Rolex S.A. Seven years later, an unprecedented event for that time occurred. Rolex decided to promote its product in an eccentric way.
For this purpose, young Mercedes Gleitze swam with it in the canal for 10 hours. The watch remained in perfect condition.
To commemorate this event, an advertisement was published on the front page of the Daily Mail, spanning the entire page. This event marked the birth of the Testimonee concept.
